Considerations
There are some things you should consider when planning for your fencing. Here's some ideas to keep in mind whether you plan to do-it-yourself or hire a professional...
  • Many cities and towns have regulations/restrictions about what type of fencing you can have and where/how it gets installed. Check with your city inspectors, home owner's association, or the folks at Upright Fence for information about what the regulations/restrictions are for your community.
  • In many cities, you'll need permission from your neighbors to put up a fence. See how your neighbors feel about the idea before you get your heart set on one.
  • It's a good idea to have a survey done (or check your mortgage papers to see if you have mortgage survey) to determine where your legal property lines are.

  • Make sure you call "Miss Dig" (the utility companies) to come out and mark your utility lines before you begin any digging!
